Robinson “Crusoe” is an affectionate, docile, and submissive pug/beagle mix with soulful and expressive features. He has been a beloved family member since he was chosen from a litter on his mom’s birthday in 2008. He settled into his new home as his family was navigating through a series of emotional and medical hurdles of which Crusoe somehow proved himself aware. Over the years he has amazed his loved ones by helping them through unimaginable trials. Whether he is supplying pressure and distraction during an anxiety attack, providing comfort throughout chemotherapy, soothing dementia-related agitation, or just being a cheerful presence throughout bereavement, Crusoe’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the comfort animals provide us in trying times. Our organization believes that by learning from these intuitive creatures, we can further enhance our own wisdom and presence of mind.
G. Ecova had the privilege of being born into a musical family of teachers and missionaries who encouraged her self-expression through creative arts. She has volunteered with various organizations as well as under-served populations domestically and abroad. Ecova most enjoys writing music and leading children in song and dance both vocally and instrumentally. Her background entails mental health and social justice advocacy, extensive instructional experience with children and elderly in a variety of settings, and Applied Behavior Analysis with children on the autism spectrum. Ecova has found unexpected success in having Crusoe as an “assistant” while caring for children with special needs. He has aided in the creation of behavior plans to promote empathy and reduce maladaptive behaviors. G. Ecova holds a Master’s degree in Child Developmental Psychology and currently works as an Early Interventionist for toddlers with developmental delays.
